Job Overview: A law firm located in Raleigh, NC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Personal Injury Trial Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for handling and developing strategies for complex personal injury cases. This role requires a compassionate approach to client interactions, a high degree of self-motivation, and a proven track record in civil litigation. The Personal Injury Trial Attorney will be expected to lead case proceedings with confidence and poise, utilize technology effectively, and build professional relationships within the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handle and develop strategies for complex personal injury cases.
  • Work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Connect with clients compassionately to understand their stories.
  • Exhibit strong self-motivation and attention to detail.
  • Manage all case-related settings, including mediations, arbitrations, depositions, hearings, trials, and client interactions.
  • Present arguments persuasively in the courtroom and connect effectively with the jury.
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations to guide clients.
  • Analyze legal and medical data to determine insurance coverage, liability, damages, and overall case strategy.
  • Conduct thorough research, prepare clients, and handle details for case-related events.
  • Develop settlement brochures, strategies, and arguments for case presentation.
  • Ensure legal compliance with disbursements and settlement funds.
  • Utilize available technology effectively to perform job duties.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other professionals to enhance brand recognition, marketing efforts, and client service.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Membership in the NC State Bar is required; additional State Bar memberships are a plus.
  • 10+ years of civil litigation experience, including a minimum of 15 cases tried to verdict in North Carolina Superior Court or United States District Court (or equivalent in other jurisdictions).
  • Proven experience as the Lead Attorney in successfully litigating complex personal injury cases, including trucking and/or catastrophic injury cases.
  • Affiliation with or membership in trade groups focused on catastrophic injury cases (e.g., Defense Research Institute (DRI), National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys, NC Trucking Association, Trucking Industry Defense Association, Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys) preferred.
  • Ability to exercise extensive independent judgment in decision-making.
  • Experience instructing, directing, mentoring, and evaluating team members.
  • Strong communication skills, judgment, tact, discretion, and the ability to quickly assimilate and analyze data.
