Alexandria office of a BCG Attorney Search Top Ranked Law Firm seeks technical advisor with 2 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering or related field. The candidate will utilize technical education and experience to review US and international patent applications for information technology specifications, language, methodology, and discussion. Will be responsible for the preparation and reporting of documents submitted to the USPTO including: formalities documents, extension letters, abandonments, restriction and/or election responses, new applications, and information disclosure statements. Conduct patentability searches and provide technical analysis related to whether or not new technologies can be patented in the US or elsewhere. Review and analyzing prior art references (technical documents) that have been cited in pending US and foreign patent applications. Determine and provide advise regarding patent filing strategy and technology portfolio landscaping. Handle various Patent Trade Office communications and client correspondence, in addition to monitoring Patent Trade Office deadlines, as well as client and/or firm requested deadlines for all assigned matters. Analyze technical documents and patent applications utilizing quantitative analysis methods, processes and procedures specifically relating to mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and software engineering to assist attorneys in invalidity and infringement studies. Formulate and apply mathematical modeling and other quantitative analytical methods to develop and interpret information that assists attorneys with understanding and writing technical specifications for patent applications involving electrical and mechanical engineering properties, mathematical formulations, and data analysis utilizing education and experience in the engineering discipline. Identify technical and analytical problems in patent applications and implement solutions based on engineering experience and education to address challenges. Prepare complex technical scientific documents, specifically in the electrical and mechanical fields. Examine documentation provided by clients in relation to an invention and provide attorneys with various courses of action and the benefits and challenges of each course of action. Advise clients regarding competitors in the technology market with respect to technical innovations, copying/counterfeiting, and intellectual property rights monetization. Provide general technical assistance to attorneys by providing technical analytical support pertaining to patent applications particularly involving mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and software. Should have Master's degree or a foreign degree.
