New York City office of our client seeks senior associate attorney with 2-3 years of experience in the field of special education law. The candidate will manage a large caseload of special education matters while supervising, training, and managing all staff members and maximizing the efficiency of office operations. Will maintain and manage large volume of individual casework, including representing clients at administrative Impartial Hearings against the New York City Department of Education. Prepare cases for hearing, including drafting notices, complaints, opening/closing statements, direct and cross examination questions. Meet with clients and other witnesses to prepare for hearings. Represent clients in appeals before the New York State Education Department's Office of State Review. Negotiate favorable settlement agreements on behalf of clients and finalize drafted stipulations of settlement. Consistently follow up with Department of Education attorneys to finalize stipulations of settlement and move cases efficiently through the impartial hearing system. Provide owner/founder with monthly settlement/hearing reports to clarify the status of matters being handled. Supervise cases assigned to associate attorney(s), including weekly strategy meetings and daily guidance either in-person or via email/phone, in-person supervision and training of attorneys at impartial hearings, and oversight/review of associate attorneys' paperwork to be filed in appeals. Supervise work of paralegal and administrative staff, including weekly check-in meetings and daily guidance either in-person or via email/phone. Monitor staff productivity and billable hours requirements. Manage the office on days when owner/founder is unavailable. Prepare weekly workflow meetings with firm's owner/founder to address important firm-related matters with owner/founder in order to improve office operations. Draft and implement various policies, systems, and procedures to improve office operations. Brainstorm with owner/founder regarding case strategy, workflow, and human resource matters, and execute various human resource strategies amongst team. Conduct onboarding, training, and professional developmental for new employees and quarterly professional development training for staff. Identify and participate in outreach/networking events on behalf of firm.

The candidate should have excellent organization, writing, and communication skills with strong attention to detail. Must have exceptional interpersonal skills and management strengths. Should be highly organized and deadline oriented with the ability to organize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to work weekend and evening hours when necessary to complete work assignments. Appropriate and professional email and phone etiquette with clients, colleagues, third parties, and opposing counsel required. Consistent attention to detail is needed. Should be able to meet deadlines consistently. Recording case time and expenses contemporaneously and meeting minimum billing and caseload requirements is essential. Proposing ideas for innovations, improvements, and efficiencies is needed. Complying with Employee Handbook and office policies, systems, and procedures at all times is a must.
