Grand Rapids office of our client seeks an associate attorney with 1-5 years of experience in criminal defense and/or family law. The candidate will be responsible for handling cases from initial pleadings to trials under the direction of the managing attorney with the support of staff. Will serve in legal and factual research including case law and statutory research. Factual research is as necessary to complete job duties. Create, draft, review, revise, file, and serve legal documents including SCAO forms, motions, briefs, memos, etc. Miscellaneous office duties as directed by attorney. In-court appearances as directed by attorney. Travel to and from office/home and courts or other work-related locations. Client file maintenance, management, and upkeep. Collating, copying, finalizing legal documents. Maintain accurate billing. Remain informed and up to date on client matters by use of text, phone, e-mail, and appearance in person as needed. Work closely with attorney and firm staff to accomplish job duties and firm objectives. Complete all assigned work in timely, efficient, and accurate manner. Follow all directions with strict adherence to Firm policies. Maintain Firm culture of exceptional professionalism and zealous advocacy. Review and interpret legal documents. Assist attorney in case preparation and administration including written and oral discovery, trial prep, motion and hearing prep, etc. Consistently prepared and prompt for meetings, discussions, coaching, hearings, etc. Should have 3+ years of progressive Post-Bar experience. Clio or similar law firm case management/billing software essential. Advanced knowledge in the use of legal search terms and research platforms similar to Westlaw or LexisNexis, ICLE, FindLaw, and the State of Michigan Compiled Laws Database essential. Advanced familiarity with Michigan civil and criminal procedures is needed. Advanced computer literacy (including the ability to troubleshoot) with including Microsoft Office, Zoom/Videoconferencing, Adobe Acrobat, cloud-based systems such as OneDrive, and basic office equipment (printers, scanners, faxes, copying, postage, etc.) essential. Must preferably have Admittance to the Federal District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Western District of Michigan. Previous experience working in a law firm, prosecutor, or judicial office environment. Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan or awaiting Bar results.
