Palo Alto office of a BCG Attorney Search Top Ranked Law Firm seeks litigation managing attorney with 2+ years of experience at a national law firm, plus other relevant experience. The candidate will work under the general direction of the litigation department leader to establish, pilot, and implement a firm wide, national docketing function. Will develop policies and procedures and actively oversee litigation filings in federal and state courts and administrative agencies (international trade commission and patent trial and appeal board) around the country (Case Management/Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF), as well as related calendaring and docketing functions. Build, train, and oversee a core team of docketing professionals who will handle docketing work directly and support the docketing activities of distributed litigation teams. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure as well as state and local rules of the courts for the firms most frequent practice. Research and locate current rules pertaining to other jurisdictions on an as needed basis. Maintain knowledge base of e-filing requirements and procedures for all federal courts and those state and local courts where attorneys request e-filing assistance. Perform on-going review of the automated software rule sets to ensure that they reflect accurate date calculations so that filing deadlines and critical dates are not missed. Prepare and distribute announcements regarding federal, state, and local rule changes to attorneys and legal support staff. Participate in professional organizations that promote on-going education regarding federal, state and local rule changes. Mentor and train litigation associates and docketing personnel on court rules and procedures. Provide training on how to draft and file various types of litigation documents. Collaborate with the firm's Professional Development Department to conduct in-house training on topics that relate to risk management, loss prevention, and firm policies related to docketing. Participate in meetings and discussions with the firms various offices and litigation practice groups on docket policy and procedures. Directly supervise and fully manage a core team of legal support staff in the docketing function. Responsibilities include interviewing; training; monitoring and approving overtime; planning, assigning, and directing work; budgeting; appraising performance through employee evaluations; addressing issues and resolving problems; and making recommendations for hiring, promotion, compensation, and bonus. Establish docketing procedures and ensure consistent and timely execution. Ensure exceptional client service levels are achieved. Ensure that appropriate docket system reminders are set and reported. Assess existing procedures and recommend changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the docketing function. Ensure the proper maintenance and integrity of the docketing database. Monitor information entered in the firms docketing systems for accuracy. Monitor daily receipts of all CM/ECF to ensure that events are timely posted. Periodically review case status (i.e. active or closed). Participate in the testing of docketing system improvements, enhancements, new applications, and selection of future calendaring technologies. Ensure suitability of legal documents for filing and for conformance with applicable federal, state and local court rules. Assist attorneys in the handling of complex litigation. Meet with attorneys on special, emergency, expedited, or large volume cases to determine how information will be entered into the docket system. Assist and advise attorneys and staff with electronic case filing issues. Answer civil and criminal procedural questions posed by attorneys. Approve client chargebacks for case filings, photocopies, or other court related fees, including sign-off and coding of invoices and reimbursement requests. Maintain a direct line of communication with the litigation department leader on all substantive issues. Attend regular departmental meetings and/or conference calls to obtain a full-range knowledge of the operation of the firm. Must be fully licensed attorney in California. Managerial experience in the docket department of a large law firm is a plus. Should have strong knowledge of federal, state and local court rules. Expertise in Case Management/Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF) procedures and docketing/calendaring procedures needed. Should have proficiency in docket databases (i.e. ALN/eDockets, CompuLaw, CPI), MS Office suite. Working knowledge of PACER for electronic filing and research is required.

The candidate should have JD degree. Must have strong communication skills and ability to interpret and analyze complex source data and prepare well-executed correspondence, training materials, and documentation.
