A law firm seeks a skilled Patent Associate with over three years of experience in patent counseling, focusing on preparation and prosecution. This position is in Washington, DC, within a prominent Intellectual Property Department specializing in Chemical, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical practices.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute domestic and international patent applications.
  • Prepare legal opinions, particularly in the biotechnology field and similar technologies.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis related to patent law.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to safeguard and manage intellectual property assets.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all patent-related activities.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years of patent counseling and prosecution experience.
  • Proven ability to draft effective patent applications and legal opinions.

Education:

  • PhD in Biological Sciences (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics) or a related discipline.
  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Current registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Active membership in the Bar of the jurisdiction(s) where the candidate is admitted to practice law.

Skills:

  • Strong legal writing and research abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Solid academic background, preferably with law firm experience.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
