Job Title: Utility And Environmental Regulatory Attorney
Job Location: Austin, TX

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Austin, TX, is seeking a driven and detail-oriented attorney with experience in utility and environmental regulatory matters. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with a seasoned team on complex administrative and regulatory issues before key Texas agencies. The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of Texas regulatory frameworks and a proactive approach to legal strategy development in the energy and environmental space.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in regulatory matters before state agencies, including:

    • Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT)

    • Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)

    • Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC)

  • Guide permitting, regulatory compliance, and enforcement issues

  • Draft, edit, and analyze regulatory submissions, agreements, and compliance documentation

  • Conduct in-depth legal research related to federal and state environmental and utility laws

  • Counsel clients on minimizing legal risk and navigating regulatory frameworks

  • Participate in administrative hearings and interface with regulators

  • Collaborate with internal and client teams to tailor case strategies

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in regulatory law focused on utilities and/or environmental sectors

  • Demonstrated expertise in Texas administrative proceedings and regulatory agency practice

  • Strong legal writing, analysis, and oral advocacy skills

  • Proven ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines independently

  • Strategic thinker with sound judgment and attention to detail

  • Comfortable working directly with client representatives and internal stakeholders

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in Texas

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of Texas energy and environmental statutes and regulations

  • Proficiency in administrative litigation, negotiations, and regulatory filings

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Organized and responsive with the ability to shift priorities as needed
