Job Overview

An international law firm is seeking an experienced ERISA/Employee Benefits Partner to join its Employment and Labor Practice, with opportunities in Michigan. This role involves managing the design, implementation, and administration of employee benefit plans and executive compensation, advising on complex health and welfare benefits, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations such as ERISA, IRC, HIPAA, PPACA, FMLA, and COBRA.

Duties

  • Design, implement, and administer employee benefit plans and executive compensation arrangements
  • Advise on health and welfare benefits, including self-funded and fully insured plans, IRC §125 cafeteria plans, IRC §501(c)(9) VEBAs, and consumer-driven plans (FSAs, HRAs, HSAs)
  • Provide legal counsel on employee benefits compliance with ERISA, IRC, HIPAA, PPACA, FMLA, and COBRA
  • Draft plan documents, policies, and agreements with attention to complex regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with the Employment and Labor team to support client needs in benefits structuring and compliance
  • Support business development efforts (a portable book of business is a plus, but not required)

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in employee benefits and ERISA law
  • Experience in health and welfare benefits structuring and compliance
  • Proficiency in analyzing and applying laws and regulations related to employee benefits
  • Strong drafting and analytical skills

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Bar Admission in Michigan or Illinois, or eligibility for admission by examination or waiver
