Job Overview:
A fast-growing and client-focused Florida-based law firm is seeking a dedicated Criminal Defense Associate Attorney to join its Tampa office. This position is ideal for a bi-lingual (Spanish-English preferred) attorney with at least two years of felony experience who is passionate about criminal defense, committed to client advocacy, and ready to work in a dynamic, collaborative legal environment. The role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced litigators on high-stakes criminal matters and contribute to a mission-driven legal practice.

Location:

  • Tampa, Florida

Duties:

  • Meet with potential and existing clients

  • Conduct witness interviews and perform in-depth legal research

  • Visit clients in custody and examine crime scenes when necessary

  • Represent clients in court hearings, trials, and other proceedings

  • Draft and file legal motions and responses

  • Develop legal strategies and gather supporting evidence

  • Coordinate with expert witnesses for testimony

  • Manage a caseload involving multiple active matters simultaneously

  • Provide frequent case updates and respond to urgent client needs

  • Collaborate closely with paralegals and legal support staff

  • Attend community service events and maintain client-centered communication

  • Willingly support family law matters, if needed

  • Remain available on-call for urgent weekend matters, as required

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in the State of Florida

  • Minimum of 2 years of criminal defense experience, including felony cases

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to multitask and manage high-pressure legal situations

  • Team-oriented with a proactive, collaborative mindset

  • Willingness to travel throughout the state of Florida by car

  • Availability to be on-call during select weekends

  • High level of integrity and professionalism

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Florida Bar (in good standing)

  • Board Certification in Criminal Trial Law preferred

  • Criminal Trial Board Certified or from a Top 100 Law School (preferred but not required)

Skills:

  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English (strongly preferred)

  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills

  • Effective courtroom advocacy and legal writing

  • Ability to build rapport with diverse client populations

  • Strong analytical thinking and investigative abilities

  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
