Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Senior Estate and Tax Planning Attorney with 11 years of post-J.D. experience to join its Boston office. The successful candidate will craft sophisticated estate and tax strategies for high-net-worth individuals and families, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and guide clients through complex federal and state tax rules.

Duties

  • Develop and implement estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax plans
  • Draft and review wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, and related documents
  • Coordinate multistate estate administrations and trust administrations
  • Advise clients on business succession planning and tax-efficient ownership transfers
  • Conduct federal and state tax research and prepare detailed memoranda
  • Represent clients in IRS and Massachusetts Department of Revenue audits and appeals
  • Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to client development initiatives

Requirements

  • 11 years of specialized experience in estate planning and federal and state tax law
  • Active admission to the Massachusetts Bar
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex client engagements and deadlines
  • Proven track record with high-value estate and gift tax matters
  • Exceptional analytical, drafting, and client-communication skills

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active Massachusetts Bar admission

Skills

  • Advanced proficiency with tax research tools (CCH, RIA, Bloomberg Tax)
  • Expertise in drafting complex estate-planning instruments and tax memoranda
  • Strong project management and leadership abilities
  • Excellent oral advocacy and presentation skills
  • Familiarity with estate-planning software (e.g., WealthDocx, Drafting Docs)
