Muskegon office of a BCG Attorney Search Top Ranked Law Firm seeks associate attorney with 2 years of family law and courtroom experience. The candidate will attend in-person and/or virtual hearings, status conferences, mediations, depositions, and trials as directed. Will negotiate settlements between parties and other attorneys. Meet with clients and potential clients to learn their legal needs and effectively explain legal issues, goals, and outcomes. Comply with all legal standards and Rules of Professional Responsibility. Maintain billable hours pursuant to firm policy. Keep track of all hours spent on matters through the firms software. Ensure that required minimum billable hours are met. Manage own caseload under the supervision of senior attorney with staff support. Accurate preparation of legal documents in a timely manner including but not limited to motions, orders, interrogatories, discovery, settlements, and trial notebooks. Trial preparation, including drafting of direct and cross examinations, witness preparation, and correct method of entering exhibits. Develop arguments to resolve cases ethically, favorably, and cost effectively for clients. Maintain organization of client files. Conduct research and compile evidence for the case. Participate in ongoing training to further grow and build new skills. Assist senior attorney with additional tasks on client matters as necessary. Collaborate with other attorneys in the office and support staff. Must be an active member in good standing of the Michigan State Bar. Familiarity with basic business valuation principles, financial statements, and tax concepts is a plus. Prior trial experience or mock trial experience is encouraged.

The candidate should have the ability to cite court rules, case law, and statutes in pleadings and in advocacy that pertains to clients interests. Must be self-motivated, ethical, and reliable. An adaptable team player with a growth mindset is required. Great oral argument skills and the ability to think on feet are needed. Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively and build rapport with clients, support staff, opposing parties, opposing counsel, experts, witnesses, and court personnel is needed. Must have great attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions while also working independently. Willingness to handle own cases from start to finish, including doing what is necessary to obtain the best outcome for clients, with review in place from senior attorneys is required. Must have excellent organizational and time management skills necessary to prioritize competing priorities and meet all deadlines. Dedication to providing high-quality service that exceeds expectations is needed. Should have the ability to navigate multiple software platforms. Must have strong research, drafting, and written communication skills.
