About DEATS, DURST, OWEN, PLLC

Established in 2005 with the merger of two long established labor and employment law firms, DDO provides a full range of legal services for our clients. We devote the majority of our time to five main areas:
Labor
We represent unions and their members throughout Texas before the courts, the National Labor Relations Board, arbitration panels, Civil Service and other federal, state and local administrative bodies. We provide legal services with a strong strategic planning component for unions who seek to organize workers or achieve other proactive results.

Employment
DDO represents individual employees ? and classes of employees ? in disputes involving all aspects of the employment relationship. We prosecute wrongful termination, discrimination, whistle blower, and free speech claims, as well as wage and hour claims, including overtime and FLSA matters and wrongful discharge claims.

Executive and Employee Employment Counsel
We also counsel and advise clients in the drafting and amending of their employment contracts and provide assistance in difficult employment relationships, including severance agreement negotiations. If necessary, we litigate on their behalf. We also advise and represent clients in litigation involving the legal effects and limitations on Covenants Not To Compete, and similar provisions that can affect their rights after they leave their current employment.

Civil Rights and Public Interest Litigation
DDO has a keen commitment to safeguarding the constitutional and statutory rights of the public from infringement by our government. We represent clients seeking to enforce the due process, free speech, and other protections found both in the Texas and U.S. Constitutions as well as those seeking to insure access to information under the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Texas Open Records Act and other federal and Texas statutes.

Legislative Advocacy
DDO has effectively represented numerous unions and other organizations in achieving their goals through the legislative process. Whether drafting legislation, lobbying at the state capitol, crafting municipal ordinances or ballot initiatives, DDO attorneys work to provide strategic services to clients wanting to make a difference.

Appellate and Civil Trial Practice
The lawyers at DDO engage in a wide variety of civil litigation on behalf of our clients, having represented clients at all levels of the judicial system.
