Foley & Lardner LLP announced the addition of Eric Cheung, an experienced health care attorney, to their Los Angeles office. Cheung will serve as of counsel in the firm’s Health Care practice. He joins from Ervin Cohen & Jessup LLP where he was a partner.

Cheung is an experienced health care transactional and litigation lawyer. He focuses on regulatory compliance, hospital operations, mergers and acquisitions and restructuring. This includes handling physician alignment model issues, medical staff and licensure matters, health plans, and accountable care organization and labor issues such as physician recruiting and hiring.

Foley Health Care practice chair Larry Vernaglia said, “We’re eager for Eric to join us. His vast litigation and transactional experience is a valuable asset to our growing practice. We welcome his perspective as we continue to navigate the health care industry’s complex legal landscape on behalf of our clients.”

Cheung advises clients from across the health care industry, including medical groups, hospitals, physicians, diagnostic imaging centers and dialysis centers. He is familiar with federal and state regulatory compliance matters that involve anti-kickback, self-referral and HIPAA laws, risk management, and litigation avoidance. His background in biology and biotechnology helps him understand which issues may alter or transform health care and delivery and payment systems.

Foley’s Los Angeles managing partner Jeff Atkin added, “Eric’s unique insight on an array of health care issues and his involvement with the California health care industry will be incredibly helpful to our clients in Los Angeles, across California and nationally. We’re happy to bring him on board.”

Cheung is a member of the American Bar Association, Los Angeles Bar Association, and the California Society for Healthcare Attorneys.
