This candidate grew up in the Midwest, and attended a college near her home town. Ultimately desiring to attend law school, she spread her wings and attended a regional law school in the south, where she received a prestigious scholarship. She was a top student, graduating summa cum laude and #1 in her class, as well as participating as a member of the Law Review.
Senior Commercial/Toxic Tort Litigation Associate Finds New Opportunity in the Midwest at Nationally-Ranked Firm

Upon receiving her J.D., this candidate joined her home town's office of a U.S. News & World Report nationally-ranked firm, where she had also been a summer associate after her 2L year. (She was committed to where she had grown up, and always planned on returning.) This candidate had begun her career performing general commercial litigation, including construction, employment, and contract dispute work. Over time, she transitioned more and more of her workload to the firm's toxic tort team, which she was asked to join due to her strong deposition and trial experience. She had grown into a seasoned associate, managing hundreds of toxic tort cases from inception to resolution, drafting discovery responses, conducting factual investigations, deposing fact and expert witnesses, performing extensive legal research, and drafting dispositive motions. She had represented a broad range of clientele, including manufacturers, distributors, employers, and premises owners. She had received fantastic reviews throughout her years at her firm, and had been elected as a junior shareholder.

BCG met this candidate after a downturn in work at her current firm. Despite her stellar reviews, track record, and commitment there, the firm was concerned that it would be unable to keep her on. This candidate had devoted her entire legal career to the firm and was unsure of her next move. She was committed to the town in which she practiced and lived with her family. BCG recognized that there were some unconventional aspects of this individual's candidacy for a lateral move. She was a senior associate/ junior partner without a book of business, and with a most recent substantive focus in the toxic tort arena. However, this candidate also exemplified a top-tier litigator who had excelled in law school (graduating first in her class), earned an opportunity with a top firm in her home town, and had been a committed and high-performing associate there since graduation. We recognized that firms in the area would appreciate her dedication, hard-working mentality, depth of experience, and intelligence, and believed that this candidate could bring great value to a new busy practice.

This candidate ultimately received multiple offers from highly-regarded firms in the area. Through BCG, she met with a high-profile partner at a firm that was performing a vast amount of work in the medical device and pharmaceutical space, analogous to this candidate's previous practice. This partner and her firm became very excited about our candidate and what she would bring to bear to their team. They recognized that our candidate could hit the ground running with minimal supervision, and with a dedicated and motivated mentality. Likewise, our candidate was impressed by the camaraderie and collegiality shown by the firm, and the opportunity for future advancement. Our candidate ultimately chose to accept the offer, and the firm could not have been happier to have her!
