This candidate attended the top national university in the Midwest state in which he was raised, majoring in the liberal arts as well as economics. He moved on to law school directly after college, and was admitted to a top 20 school where he performed very well. He was interested in business litigation, and felt extremely fortunate to land an in-house role with a fortune 500 company immediately upon graduation - a rare opportunity for a junior attorney. He focused on litigation case management, received a high level of ownership over the docket, and was a high performer.

Eventually, however, this candidate desired to return to his home state. He also had come to feel that he wanted to gain traditional experience in a law firm setting in private practice, and so sought out opportunities with firms back home. He joined a regionally-ranked firm that had an opening, and began working as a litigation associate.

When BCG began working with this candidate, he had proven himself as a highly successful associate. He was working on an extremely high profile case and performing a very high volume of work. He was receiving rave reviews and earning extra bonuses for his commitment. He felt, however, that he would be interested in an opportunity to work on a more diverse caseload and gain more hands-on experience in all aspects of the litigation process. Given that his initial private practice search had been upon relocating back to Michigan, and was constricted to firms that had active openings as well as those that would take a chance on an attorney that had only previously worked in-house - this candidate also believed there may be further growth opportunities that he had now earned the right to explore more thoroughly.

This candidate worked with BCG for some time, reflecting on opportunities and moving through a few interview processes that were not ultimately successful. He also received an offer, but the salary was not in the range for which he had hoped, and he decided to pass. He was persistent, however, and eventually an amazing opportunity arose with a stellar, boutique litigation firm that had not previously been on his radar. This firm was actually located just miles from where this candidate was living, and boasted a small but incredibly talented roster of attorneys performing sophisticated commercial litigation. Due to the firm's smaller size, they did not always receive attention from the types of candidates they desired to hire (those with excellent academic credentials and experience). When they saw this candidate's resume, however, they were immediately intrigued. Despite his somewhat unorthodox career path to that point, BCG promoted the fact that this candidate had stellar academic credentials, an unmatched work ethic, and had now proven himself in private practice. He would certainly be a valuable addition to this firm's team.

Given our candidate's desire to elevate his practice and perform complex work as well as meet a desired salary range, he was initially hesitant regarding the opportunity. However, once he met with the team at the firm he quickly realized what an elite group existed there, and was impressed by the competitive compensation offered as well. The process moved very quickly with this candidate and firm, and the two parties truly felt like the perfect match that would not have come together without BCG. Our candidate has been highly successful in his new role, and the firm is so glad to have found him!
