Venable Adds to Its Legislative and Government Affairs Practice

Venable LLP announced the addition of Thomas M. Boyd to their Washington D.C. office as a partner and co-chair of their Legislative and Government Affairs Practice. Boyd, a former assistant attorney general with the Department of Justice from 1987 to 1989 under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush. In 1989, he was named as head of the DOJ's Office of Policy Development until 1991.
 
Co-chair of Venable’s Legislative and Government Affairs Practice, The Honorable Mark L. Pryor, said, “Tom has a sterling reputation, and he is very respected by people inside the beltway as well as by his clients. We look forward to drawing upon his knowledge and wisdom in the public policy and regulatory spaces.”
 
Boyd helps clients with privacy, financial services, electronic commerce, and other related regulatory and legislative matters. His clients include financial service companies like banks, insurance companies, credit card issuers, online broker dealers, and more.
 
He said of his move, “Venable has a healthy sense of self born of tremendous achievement in the legal community, and it has an intensely collaborative and interactive culture that sets it apart from many if its contemporaries. I look forward to being a part of it.”
 
Boyd also served a three-year term starting in 2007 with the Department of Homeland Security Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee. He earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and his B.A. from the Virginia Military Institute in history.
