Akerman Grows Chicago Office with New Partner
Summary: A new tax partner has joined the Chicago office of Akerman to help their tax practice group grow locally, nationally, and internationally.
Akerman LLP, a top 100 U.S. law firm, has strategically grown their Tax Practice Group in Chicago. Tax partner David Blum will help Akerman serve their clients locally, nationally, and internationally in tax planning and structuring, and tax litigation. Blum will be joining from Levenfeld Pearlstein, LLC where he was the co-chair of the Tax Planning & Litigation Group.

Blum will be the fourth lawyer to join Akerman’s Chicago team since January when the firm announced their plan to double the size of their Chicago office space. He will focus his practice on a variety of tax planning, transactional, and tax litigation matters. He frequently advises clients on all areas of multistate taxation such as nexus issues, sales and use tax, income apportionment, transfer fees, franchise tax, False Claims Act, and state registration and reporting requirements.
Chair of Akerman’s Tax Practice Group Peter Larsen says, “David has structured and litigated some of the most complex tax issues. He adds another dimension to our growing Tax Practice Group and strengthens our ability to assist clients with state and local, federal, and multinational tax planning, structuring and controversy issues. David will provide immediate and valuable counsel to our clients as they confront the multitude of tax issues that arise on a daily basis.”
Blum has served as a former state tax auditor and on several boards in leadership positions including with the Chicago Bar Association, the Federal Taxation Full Committee, the CBA’s Corporate Tax Subcommittee, and more. He currently serves on the Taxpayers’ Federation of Illinois State and Local Tax Committee. He is ranked by Chambers USA for taxation and tax controversy in Illinois.
