Former U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag Rejoins Orrick
Summary: Law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has welcomed back former Bay Area U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag as head of its global litigation unit.
Her new role at Orrick will be as head of the global litigation group of over 400 lawyers. She was a partner at Orrick before Obama appointed her as the San Francisco U.S. attorney six years ago. Her top assistant Brian Stretch will take over as U.S. attorney. Stretch will act as a temporary U.S. attorney until the November election when the next president will be able to nominate a permanent head of the office.
While the U.S. attorney, Haag was responsible for supervising high-profile cases that ranged from the political corruption prosecution of former state Sen. Leland Yee to the indictment of PG&E for their negligence in the San Bruno pipeline explosion.
Haag previously worked as the white collar specialist at Orrick as well as a federal prosecutor in Los Angeles and San Francisco. She started her legal career as a litigation associate with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in Los Angeles. She received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and her B.A. from the University of California, San Diego.
