December 21, 2010 | PDF Version

Pasadena, CA — BCG Attorney Search has released its ''State of the Market Report Fall 2010''. The report covers the latest trends in legal practice areas and recruiting trends across the country.

''We identify six main regions throughout the country for our services and we found that most remained stagnant. The only bright spots were Silicon Valley and Seattle markets,'' said Claudia Barnes, Managing Director of BCG Attorney Search. ''In the Northeast, the DC market has remained the same now as it was in the first six months of the year. The New York market is showing signs of improvement in corporate and finance, while IP continues to lag.''

BCG Attorney Search Top 6 Trends for Fall 2010 by region
  1. Southern California - The fields of bankruptcy and corporate are growing.
  2. Northern California - The need for intellectual property litigators grew at all levels. Lawyers with a technical background will do great in this region.
  3. Northwest - Attorneys specializing in corporate, employment and labor are in a good position here, while those in real estate law are going to find very few openings.
  4. Northeast - The DC market has seen some growth in healthcare and energy related attorney jobs. Finance and corporate are making a comeback in New York.
  5. Southwest - The market is overall in a slump, with litigation doing relatively well compared to all the other areas.
  6. Midwest - Hiring has decreased in the fourth quarter in Chicago.
