New Orleans office of our client seeks environmental/toxic tort litigation attorney/document manager with 3+ years of experience. The candidate will research and draft motions, memoranda, pleadings, discovery and related documents with great attention to detail and an ability to fully comprehend the legal issues at hand and argue creatively and make fine legal distinctions. Will review, organize, analyze, and code documents related to oil and gas activities, to assist with document production in discovery, to assist in developing client NORM and Act 312 stories, and to assist in the determination of potential client liability. Become familiar with document manager system, Lexbe, and related firm document management systems and processes. Learn the properties involved in the Act 312 cases in order to understand which documents reviewed are potentially relevant to which cases. Learn the pipe yards involved in the NORM cases in order to understand which documents reviewed are potentially relevant to which cases. Work with the paralegals in uploading and coding documents into Lexbe. Become familiar with Act 312 and oil and gas legacy case litigation issues. Become familiar with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and Louisiana Department of Natural Resources regulations and personnel. Become able to discuss Act 312, NORM, and related issues with experts and consultants, including issues related to testing, sampling and regulatory reporting per Act 312 and Rule 29B. Become familiar with NORM bodily injury cases and the pertinent issues, experts, attorneys and co‑defense counsel that arise in those types of cases. Understand the importance of early evaluation of cases and regular and comprehensive reporting. Become familiar with case law on allocation of fault, Cole vs. Celotex. Become familiar with case law on burden of proof and precedential requisites, Lucas vs. Hopeman Brothers, Vodanavich vs. A. P. Green, and Thibodaux vs. Asb. Corp. and must be familiar with cases involving substantial contributing factor, Lucas vs. Hopeman Brothers, and Quick vs. Murphy Oil. Review, organize and analyze documents related to Toxic Torts, in conjunction with experts, to assist in the determination of potential client liability. Should be familiar with Act 312 cases and NORM cases. Experience using Lexbe and Relativity is preferred. Must have working background on medical issues relating to occupational lung diseases including pathology, chest x-rays and CT scans, and pulmonary function tests.
