International firm's Chicago office seeks tax associate (ideally a class of 2009 or 2010) with federal tax/transactional experience. Firm will also consider strong controversy associates.

This mega-firm with offices all over the globe is considered the best mergers and acquisitions firm in the world. The Chicago office is brimming with business in corporate, banking, leverage buyout, litigation, real estate and other sectors. You will be highly compensated, but you must be prepared to put in long hours. Associates bill more than 2200 hours per year. But you are in a prestigious firm, and the work cannot get any better in terms of complexity and sophistication. It is collegial, but fraternizing is limited as the workload is very heavy. You will get responsibility early on, but the work may seem mundane at time. You are expected to prove yourself quickly, and thereafter the interesting assignments will begin to flow. This firm is very, very selective and all of their associates have come from the top national schools, with top grades. Just about everyone was on law review, or has achieved induction in the Order of the Coif.
