The majority of law firms with substantial practices are located in Northern New Jersey (Newark, Jersey City, Roseland), Morristown, and Princeton. Accordingly, you will find that attorneys live in the surrounding suburbs.
BCG works largely with mid-sized and large New Jersey-based law firms. Oftentimes, large New Jersey-based firms have opened satellite offices in Manhattan and have goals to aggressively penetrate the New York market. In addition, some of the large New York-based firms, as well as other large national law firms, have opened up satellite offices in New Jersey.
Currently, litigation positions dominate BCG's New Jersey job listings. Litigation positions include general commercial, environmental, insurance, labor/employment, and intellectual property. There are also several firms looking for general corporate and securities attorneys. Most of the positions are for junior to mid-level associates. With so many larger firms opening satellite offices in New Jersey, firms are always interested in partners with business (minimum of $500K, less for less-developed practice areas).
Accordingly, the majority of our candidates interested in the New Jersey market have interviewed for commercial litigation or corporate positions, mostly with the large New Jersey-based firms or satellite offices of New York-based firms. However, we have had candidates interview and accept offers with smaller New Jersey firms with fewer than 100 attorneys, often for more specialized positions, such as land use and planning.
Some of the most popular tourism regions include the Jersey Shore, Greater Atlantic City, and Gateway.
If you're a fan of water sports and white beaches, you will love the Shore Region. All along the coastline of New Jersey are quaint fishing communities and active boardwalks. The Shore Region offers many cultural venues, including concerts and music at the Great Auditorium and headline performers at PNC Bank Arts Center. Beach lovers tend to rave about the benefits of living near natural beauty, with easy train access to Newark and Manhattan.
Among the 127 miles of shore-lined white beaches in New Jersey is its most popular boardwalk at Atlantic City. In addition to four miles of boardwalk, Atlantic City offers 24-hour gaming, 12 casino resorts, fine dining, shopping, and museums.
New Jersey's Gateway region is home to Liberty State Park and Ellis Island. This historic site represented the "new beginning" to millions of immigrants, and the cultural diversity of this place is currently represented through a wide array of different museums, including Tenafly's African Art Museum, the Zimmerli Art Museum in New Brunswick, and the Newark Museum.
Gateway is also home to Liberty Science Center, with the nation's largest IMAX Dome Theatre. For performing arts fans, visit the Paper Mill Playhouse, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and the John Harms Center for the Performing Arts.
New Jersey offers more family-oriented and wallet-conscious fare then its neighbor across the Hudson, but without sacrificing quality or ambience. Some of New Jersey's most renowned establishments include Scalini Fedeli, the Ryland Inn, Amanda's, the River Palm Terrace, the Frog and the Peach, Highlawn Pavilion, Basilico, Park & Orchard, Serenade, and Fromagerie. |
