Winston & Strawn Hires 10 Partners
Summary: Winston & Strawn snagged 10 partners from McDermott Will & Emery to add to their employee benefits team.
Winston & Strawn welcomed ten partners to their team, seven of which will be in their Chicago office. All ten partners join from McDermott Will & Emery. The partners will be part of the employee benefits and executive compensation practice.
Chairman Tom Fitzgerald said, “This group complements and strengthens our already strong EBEC Practice. We are excited to welcome and integrate this prestigious group of practitioners to the firm, which underscores our commitment to strategic growth in key practice areas and markets.”
Nancy Gerrie will co-chair the employee benefits and executive compensation practice in Chicago with Winston attorney Scott Landau in Washington D.C.
This addition is the latest of Winston, who has been gathering up partners around the country from other firms. Their latest raid was in Dallas where they opened a 26-lawyer office with attorneys from nine different firms.
McDermott has seen a number of departures from top partners but they are maintaining a steady headcount. McDermott Chairman Ira Coleman explained that they still have 40 partners in their top-tier employee benefits practice. He said, “Productivity actually will increase 25 percent with these departures, and it will have no effect on our firm’s finances.”
