Through his work and time with the FTC, Muris gained experience in every aspect of antitrust enforcement and key consumer protection issues like advertising, privacy regulation, and consumer finance. He held multiple high-level positions and was the only one to direct both of their enforcement bureaus. His leadership brought about the National Do No Call Registry and numerous high-profile cases against companies misusing government practices to raise prices. Muris also led the FTC in bringing lawsuits against physicians for price-fixing, fraudulent and deceptive advertising, and health claims to protect the public. This included efforts to increase antitrust scrutiny of intellectual property matters and hospital mergers. Before working with the FTC, Muris spent time with the U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission, in addition to a number of other domestic and international agencies.

Managing partner of Sidley’s Washington D.C. office, Mark Hopson said, “Tim is recognized as being among the best antitrust lawyers in the U.S. and we are delighted he chose to join Sidley. He’s earned the respect of both the business and government communities for his vast knowledge of antitrust and consumer protection practices. Having Tim on our team puts us in an enviable position and adds to our already considerable capabilities in helping clients navigate these challenging issues.”
