11-Member Team Follows Mika Mayer to Cooley
Summary: Cooley made a great addition with Mika Mayer a month ago and brought on her former team filled with highly qualified attorneys and patent agents.
Cooley has moved to the number one position with the largest life sciences patent practice in the United States. With addition of Mika Mayer’s team of 11 lawyers and patent agents from Morrison & Foerster LLP, the life sciences group now has over 70 people as part of the team. Mayer joined the firm a month ago as a partner in the intellectual property group.

The newly added team includes lawyer and licensed medical doctor Walter Wu. He will be a partner with Cooley. He earned his MD from the University of California, Davis School of Medicine and his JD from UCLA School of Law. The rest of the team comprises four associates and six patent agents, all with backgrounds in the life sciences industry. The team does not lack in credentials with two medical doctors, three PhD chemists, three advanced-degree bioengineers, two mechanical engineers, one chemical engineer, and one PhD neuroscientist.
Co-chair of Cooley’s patent counseling & prosecution group, Michael Tuscan said, “The arrival of Mika’s team demonstrates the momentum of Cooley’s patent practice.
