Silverman has both pro bono experience and extensive private and public sector experience in civil and criminal law. He will identify and secure pro bono opportunities and partnerships for the firm's attorneys, which will ensure widespread participation in these projects and ensure that the pro bono work is of a high quality.

Michael Cardozo, a litigation partner who oversees the firm's pro bono program, said, "Bill's robust history of public service will deepen our ability to serve our pro bono clients, help attract interesting new matters to be handled by all of our lawyers in all of our departments and 13 worldwide offices, and have a greater impact on our communities. We are excited to add Bill to our ranks, not only for his strong credentials, but also for his demonstrated creativity, compassion and dedication to pro bono efforts."

Silverman commented, "I am thrilled to join Proskauer and its longstanding tradition of serving the public interest and giving back to the community. I consider this position to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. With the support and resources of the firm, we can make a significant impact on the lives of those who desperately need legal assistance."

Silverman is a former federal prosecutor, and he oversaw the global pro bono program and fellowship foundation at Greenberg Traurig, his former employer. He was also actively involved in the New York City Family Court Volunteer Attorney Program, and has served as counsel to the New York State Anti-Trafficking Coalition.

Joseph Leccese, the chairman of Proskauer, said, "We have a vibrant pro bono practice that is continually evolving to reflect the changing needs of our society. With Bill at the helm, we will have an opportunity to make an even greater impact on the communities in which we live and work, and to offer our lawyers even more pro bono opportunities where they can make a difference in people's lives and at the same time gain valuable legal experience."

Silverman earned his law degree from New York University School of Law and his B.A. from Brown University.
