Fish & Richardson Named IP Practice Group of the Year
The law firm of Fish & Richardson has been named the IP Practice Group of the Year by Law360, according to The News Journal.
This is the third straight year that the firm has received the honor. The award is based on the complexity, size and significance of the litigation wins throughout the year.
"Fish has both a large number of technically trained lawyers and a deep bench of seasoned trial lawyers. That means we can create a team with exactly the right people for every case, jurisdiction, technology, and industry," said Ann Cathcart Chaplin, Litigation Practice Group Leader at Fish & Richardson in a press release from the firm. "We work with thousands of the world's largest and most innovative companies. They trust us with their most important business objectives because we provide strategic counseling and litigation services that protect and maximize the value of their intellectual property."
The firm won multiple high-profile cases involving patents in the pharma and tech sectors in 2014. One of those victories included a Federal Circuit decision that defeated infringement claims made against Apple and LG Electronics. A pharma win came for Allergan Inc. in its fight to protect $400 million eye medication.
"Post-grant proceedings have become a key weapon in patent infringement disputes," said Cathcart Chaplin. "These cases show the value of synergy between trial teams and patent prosecution teams. It is a winning combination few firms can match."
The firm also won a case for Fresenius, which took a total of 10 years, two trials and three appeals with the Federal Circuit. After a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office re-examination, the company was let go of its $150 million liability.
The firm was recently named the top trademark law firm for a fifth consecutive year by World Trademark Review 1000. The firm was named Patent Litigation Law Firm of the Year by U.S. News & World Report.
