American Airlines & US Airways Proposed Merger to Involve Dozen Am Law 100 Firms
The proposed $11 billion merger of AMR (parent company of American Airlines) and the US Airways Group will create the world’s largest airline. It will also involve about a dozen Am Law 100 firms.
The Am Law Daily reports that Weil, Gotshal & Manges is serving as the lead bankruptcy and deal counsel to the now bankrupt AMR, its longtime client. K&L Gates is also involved in the deal on the side of AMR because of its partner Mary Korby who was previously a partner at Weil Gotshal.
Paul Hastings is also involved as the firm handling the special labor and antitrust counsel to AMR. The other law firms working on behalf of AMR are Jones Day, Debevoise & Plimpton, Texas - based litigation boutique Yetter Coleman and Skadden among others. On the US Airways side, the main firms are Latham & Watkins, Dechert, O'Melveny & Myers, Shearman & Sterling.
The new airline will have 100,000 employees, serve 187 million passengers every year. If the routes are not cut, it will have 6,700 daily flights using its 900 aircraft across the world.
