Law Firm Founder Charles T. Manatt, Political and Business Leader, Dies at Age 75

Ambassador Charles T. Manatt, founder and co-chairman of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP , passed away on July 22, 2011, at the age of 75. Over a 50 -year career, Mr. Manatt mastered the business of politics and the politics of business. He was known throughout legal, business, political, and civic circles as a visionary leader. In addition to co-founding the prominent national law firm that bears his name, Mr. Manatt served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) from 1981-85 and US Ambassador to the Dominican Republic from 1999-2001, as well as on numerous corporate, educational, and civic boards. He served as co-chairman of bill Clinton's presidential campaign in 1992.
