Merge Redefines Largest Law Firm
Merge Redefines Largest Law Firm
Last week's merging of Womble Carlyle Sandbridge & Rice with Buist Moore Smithe McGee goes into effect the end of May. It also redefines the largest law firm in the Carolinas. Buist is one of the oldest firms in the Charleston area and is home to 44 attorneys, but Womble Carlyle employes almost 500 attorneys. Keith Vaughn, Womble Carlyle chairman, released a presser that reads, in part, ''There's a lot of business moving towards the southeastern U.S., this merger allows us a presence in Charleston''. The merger means a powerful new firm with strong advocacy focusing on corporations and partnerships in ''all aspects of commercial activity''.
