Former San Antonio city attorney joins Austin law firm
Andrew Martin has joined the Austin office of Brown McCarroll, LLP. He was named Of Counsel in the firm's real estate section. In his new position, Martin will represent clients facing legal challenges relating to planning and land use issues. Previously, Martin was San Antonio's city attorney from 2002 to spring 2005. Brown McCarroll is a multidisciplinary law firm with offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Longview, and El Paso.

Gordon & Glickson merges with McGuireWoods
McGuireWoods, LLP, and Gordon & Glickson, LLC, jointly announced their plans to merge and form a new Technology & Business Department within McGuireWoods. Gordon & Glickson is a leader in providing legal counsel on technology-related issues to clients in various industries, governments, and not-for-profit organizations. McGuireWoods is one of the 100-largest law firms in the world and now has nine legal departments specializing in more than 80 practice areas.

Sandman steps down as Arnold & Porter Managing Partner
Arnold & Porter's Managing Partner, James Sandman, is stepping down after holding this post for more than a decade. Sandman is the president-elect of the Washington, DC, Bar. Corporate partner Richard Alexander has taken his place.

Kilpatrick Stockton selects three intellectual property partners
Atlanta-based Kilpatrick Stockton has expanded its New York office with the addition of three intellectual property partners. Two partners previously worked with copyright and trademark boutique Fross Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu, and one worked with Paris-based Salans.

Freshfields appoints Rance as regional managing director
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer named Manhattan-based partner Brian Rance regional managing director to head the firm's New York City office. Succeeding Ted Burke, who is relocating to the firm's head office in London as chief executive, Rance is credited with having extensive experience representing financial institutions in a wide variety of financial and corporate deals. Freshfields is an international law firm specializing in antitrust, international arbitration, project finance, and structured finance transactions.

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher adds new partner
Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, LLP, strengthened its bi-coastal government contracts capability by adding Karen Manos as a partner for Washington, DC, office. Manos, who formerly led the government contracts practice at Howrey, LLP, will advise Gibson's public contractor clients on regulatory issues and represent them in compliance, disputes, and litigation matters. Manos has experience in a broad range of government contract issues, including civil and criminal fraud investigations and litigation.

McKool Smith promotes three associates to principals
McKool Smith has named three associates as principals in the firm: Kevin Burgess, Michael S. Perez, and David Sochia. Burgess and Perez will focus on all phases of commercial litigation, particularly in complex cases relating to patent infringement litigation. Sochia will handle commercial and intellectual property litigation. McKool Smith is renowned for providing expert counseling to national and international clients on commercial and intellectual property litigation matters.
