Covington and Former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue Team Up Again
On December 1st former National Football League Commissioner Paul Tagliabue once again became a member of Covington & Burling, LLP
. Tagliabue joined the firm as senior of counsel. He is a former Covington partner who represented the league for 20 years before joining its executive ranks and serving as NFL commissioner from 1989 through 2006. Tagliabue will work out of the firm's New York and Washington, DC, offices and advise on communications/media, technology, and international matters.
DLA Piper
Race-Bias Suit Rejected
A discrimination suit that was brought against DLA Piper by a former associate, Charlene Morisseau, was rejected by a Manhattan federal judge. Morisseau is a Harvard Law School graduate who joined the firm in 2003 and was terminated less than one year later. In her lawsuit Morisseau alleged that she was fired after she complained to the human resources department about partners' racist behavior; Morisseau is black. New York judge Lewis Kaplan, who granted summary judgment in DLA Piper's favor, said in his finding that the firm argued "legitimate, non-discriminatory reason for plaintiff's termination." After the decision Morisseau filed an opposition.
Jones Day
Names New Partner-in-Charge of Chicago Office
Effective January 1, 2008, Dan Reidy will become partner-in-charge of Jones Day's Chicago office. He has extensive experience in civil litigation, white-collar crime, and regulatory enforcement matters. Reidy is a former assistant United States attorney and well-known litigator, as well as a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Reidy graduated from the University of Michigan and was present when the firm initially opened its Chicago office nearly 20 years ago.
