Taking Time To Reflect
By Robyn Ginsberg
One of the big lessons from Super Bowl 2013 is that taking the time to self-reflect and catch one’s breath can be a real game-changer. While the 49ers didn’t win in the end, they did turn things around and what looked to be an uneventful second half suddenly became an edge-of-our seats nail biter. The blackout gave the 49ers a chance to refocus on their game plan and refine their strategy.
Job-seekers can also benefit from this lesson. It is not uncommon for job seekers to get over-excited once they begin looking for new opportunities. Many people start by using the “see what sticks” approach of applying to any and every job that pops up, working with multiple recruiters, self-submitting applications, funneling applications through friends, etc. – all with no real positive effect. Others take one consistent but ineffective approach and thus also are not successful.
In either case, unless you are seeing consistent positive results with your approach, I would urge you to take a moment to catch your breath and reflect on your job search strategy. If your approach is not yielding success then consider changing up your game plan. We would be happy to assist you with your job search and may be just the resource you need to change your momentum.
