Katy Anderman is the Managing Director of BCG Attorney Search’s East Coast Region. She places highly credentialed attorneys in firms of all sizes in markets throughout the East Coast, including Washington, D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York City, and Charlotte, North Carolina. Her territory also covers Connecticut, New Jersey, upstate New York, Virginia, Maryland and Florida. Ms. Anderman specializes in firm placements but also handles select general counsel positions and in-house placements in the tech industry.
Ms. Anderman spent nearly a decade as the Director of Legal Recruiting for the major international law firm of Kirkland & Ellis LLP and thus brings unique and invaluable experience to her BCG clients. She has seen the law firm recruiting and hiring process from the inside and knows what hiring partners want, how attorneys can present themselves so they stand apart from the crowd, and how to make sure her candidates’ resumes make it past hiring “gatekeepers” and land on the right desk at the right time in the right way. Ms. Anderman has exceptional credibility with law firm senior management and a reputation for integrity, affability, commitment and success.
Ms. Anderman was first attracted to the recruiting profession during college. She attended job fairs and was intrigued by the way recruiters interacted with students – drawing out their interests and leaving everyone with a feeling of possibility. But before committing to recruiting, she took a job as a paralegal at the New York office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP to explore a possible career as an attorney. Interestingly, she loved the challenging firm environment, and being around intelligent, motivated people, but she gravitated towards the firm’s recruiting department instead of its practice areas.
Soon she was working in the recruiting departments of King & Spalding in New York and Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago. At Kirkland, she directed all aspects of attorney recruitment for the firm’s flagship office. She worked closely with partners and recruiting committees and hired hundreds of associates, lateral attorneys and partners. She also designed and implemented programs to enhance diversity recruiting efforts and counseled new attorneys about how to best integrate and acclimate to the firm.
Ms. Anderman is married to a former private equity lawyer who now works in finance. They have a young daughter and a rescue dog named Milton. They enjoy bike rides, trips to the zoo and arboretum, and generally being outside. For vacations, they decamp to Lake Michigan and Florida’s Sanibel Island.
Ms. Anderman has an eye for photography and can often be found with her camera documenting the milestones of her daughter’s life and those of her friends and family.
